Rock & Roll Rendezvous 2011

The 2011 Rock and Roll Rendezvous will be held on Sunday 17 April.

2011 marks the 20th anniversary of SA's largest annual rock and roll event. The Rock & Roll Rendezvous is a full day of fun and entertainment in the idyllic grounds of the National Motor Museum. Join over 5000 visitors for a day of cars, music, fashion, dancing, food and entertainment.

Rock and Roll Rendezvous is a day full of fun and entertainment for rock and rollers of all ages. With music, dancing, children's activities and fashion there is something for everyone. The 2011 event features:

Music

It wouldn't be a Rock and Roll Rendezvous without the music! The 2011 event looks set to be one of the best yet with a fantastic line up of live entertainment headlined by Glenn Shorrock performing a special all rock and roll set with Andy & the Rockits, plus
  • The Satellites
  • Eddy Furey & the Idols
  • Bobby Hunter with the Rockafellas
Dancing The joint will be jumping with dancing and demonstrations throughout the day. We have two outdoor dance floors by the main stage for all you jive bunnies and daddy cools. No matter if you're a beginner, starter or once a year dancer, everyone gets up for a boogie on the Rendezvous dance floor! There is a special dance competition for dancers of all abilities, so come and join in and maybe win a prize.

Families and Children

All children under 15 receive free entry to the event, and there is plenty to keep them entertained all day.

Activities include:
  • Free craft activities provided by Splodge.
  • Face painting
  • Airbrush tattoos
  • Jumping Castle
  • Clowns
The Fashion

From the 50s through to the 80s, rock and roll has inspired some of the most amazing fashion trends of our times. We encourage everyone to get dressed up and bring out their inner rock star. From kids to adults, it's a great way to be a part of the day.

Rock and Roll Cars

From the 50s, 60s and 70s we have the hottest vehicles that take you back to an era of motoring where style was everything! It's all about icons like the FJ or the sleek fins and chrome of a Cadillac. Then there are the classics or the custom street rods, the mighty muscle cars and of course the motorcycles and scooters.

Rock & Roll Rendezvous celebrates all vehicles of the Rock & Roll era with prizes awarded for the best vehicles in the following categories:
  • Best Hot Rod
  • Best Original pre - 1955
  • Best Custom pre - 1955
  • Best Original post - 1954
  • Best Custom post - 1954
  • Spirit of the Day (includes the vehicle and it's occupants' dress)
The relationship between cars and rock and roll is one of the longest running in pop culture history. From Ike Turner's 1951 tune 'Rocket 88' (arguably one of the first hit rock and roll songs), which was about a high power Oldsmobile, through to the latest car commercials with their big guitar driven theme songs (think AC/DCs 'Thunderstruck' on the recent Holden Ute ads), the relationship between rock music and cars is undeniable.

Where would we be without 'Mustang Sally' by Wilson Pickett or the Beach Boy's 'Little Deuce Coupe'? Or how about the Ted Mulry Gang's 'Jump in my Car' or AC/DCs 'Highway to Hell'? From the 1950s through to today, motor cars of all makes, types and eras continue to inspire musicians and songwriters.

For a lot of us the ideal soundtrack has to be rock and roll. Whether you are 16 or 60, chances are one of the almost 300 genres of rock and roll music will put a bounce in your seat, and get the percussive thumb work going on the steering wheel!

The Rock and Roll Rendezvous is a celebration of all vehicles that fit within the rock and roll genre. From the classic Cadillacs and American makes with their fins and chrome, to the modified hot rods, and the Australian and American muscle cars, there is something for everyone.

Corporate 3on3 was a Success

From the Adelaide 36ers blog.

"Last week The Dome saw businesses from across Adelaide take each other on in the 36ers Corporate 3-on-3 competition.

Eight businesses suited up to compete for an assortment of prizes including Hollywood Seats to our next home game. The competition also provided a fantastic opportunity for the companies to network in an unusual situation.

The City of Tea Tree Gully, Bernie Lewis, Smiths Holden, Colin Johns Chemplus, Eastside Automotive, Stockman Electrical, Fitness 5022 and ANZ all took part in half court games refereed by our own Adelaide 36ers team and were even joined by a couple of the players on court when times were tough!

Although every team put in their best efforts, including Fitness 5022's Andrew Mcleod and Aurelio Vidmar, the grand final saw Eastside Automotive against Colin Johns Chemplus. Colin Johns Chemplus put up an impressive fight with 3-point superstar and world renowned artist Robin Eley, however Eastside Automotive was victorious at the final buzzer."

Well done to Todd and the team - go Eastside!

Have you seen us on TV?

We've had quite a few folk call and tell us they have seen us and their cars on our TV ad. It's pretty exciting for us to finally be able to advertise ourselves in the most elite format available.

Our thanks to Scott McBain for putting a great ad together which showcases our Restoration Section. We are currently producing a new ad for our Service and Autogas sections.

Keep and eye out for that in the next few weeks!

Summer is on the way!

At last there is light at the end of the tunnel!

The winter has been very unkind to us cruisers and I personally cant wait to dust off the Yankee Iron and the Harley and get back to some serious cruzin. I've seen a few brave cruisers running the gauntlet with the cold and the rain but its almost impossible at the moment to get it right.

If you have any bits and pieces to get organised on your car then now is the time to do it, don't wait till everyone else wants theirs done!

Book now and be ready for a fun Summer.
